How to Control TradingLead with an AI Assistant
To control TradingLead with AI, install TradingLead Desktop (0.1.8 or later on Apple Silicon Macs), sign in and enable AI setup. Then open a new terminal and ask your assistant to run tradinglead agent-guide and target your chart tab. GitHub Copilot gets the public TradingLead skills automatically, and no MCP server is needed. Assistants cannot place live broker orders.
What it does
This guide connects an AI assistant you already use, such as GitHub Copilot CLI or Claude Code, to TradingLead. Once connected, the assistant can carry out chart and research tasks for you. It can change the symbol and interval, add technical indicators, run the stock screener, create price alerts, and run a backtest or paper trade.
The connection is local and goes through TradingLead Desktop. AI agent control explains what it can and cannot do.
How it works
TradingLead Desktop 0.1.8 for Apple Silicon Macs includes a tradinglead command-line tool. Your assistant runs it in a terminal. The tool:
- explains the available workflows (
tradinglead agent-guide) - lists and reads the public TradingLead skills (
tradinglead skills list, tradinglead skills read) - sends commands to the open TradingLead tab
The commands drive the same controls you see on screen, so every change appears in your chart. No MCP server is involved. TradingLead does not provide or bill for the AI model.
Key capabilities
- One-click setup on first launch, or under Help > AI integrations (enable, repair, update, disable)
- Automatic registration of public TradingLead skills for GitHub Copilot
tradinglead agent-guideinstructions that any terminal agent can read- Daily-at-most skill updates with integrity checks, with offline fallback to the packaged version
- A Command activity log and a pause control in the AI Workspace
How to use
1. Install and sign in
Download TradingLead Desktop from /download and follow install the desktop app. Managed AI setup needs version 0.1.8 or later on a Mac with Apple Silicon. The public Windows build is older, so check the download page for availability. Sign in with your TradingLead account.
2. Enable AI integration
Accept the AI setup prompt on first launch, or open Help > AI integrations and enable it. Setup keeps your existing skills and shell settings, and it grants no account or trading permissions.
3. Open a new terminal and start your assistant
Open a new terminal window so the tradinglead command is found. Start GitHub Copilot CLI, Claude Code or a similar agent there. In Copilot CLI, the TradingLead skills are available after setup; run /skills reload if a session was already open.
4. Ask it to read the guide and find your tab
Keep a chart tab active in TradingLead Desktop, then prompt:
Run
tradinglead agent-guide, discover the open TradingLead tabs and target my active chart tab.
5. Give a clear task
Some examples:
- "Switch the chart to NSE:INFY-EQ on the daily interval and add a 20-period EMA."
- "Scan my watchlist for close above SMA20 and RSI14 ≥ 60 on 1D, then show the matches."
- "Create a price alert on the current symbol when it crosses above 1,500."
- "Backtest this Pine Script strategy on the daily chart and summarise the report."
Review what changed in the app. Writes to your cloud account, such as watchlists, saved screeners or alerts, need a real sign-in and your permission.
6. Pause or disconnect
Use the Local automation panel on tradinglead.in/ai-workspace to pause the connection. To remove it, use Help > AI integrations > Disable.
Manual skills install (developers)
The skills are public at github.com/Shubham-vish/tradinglead-skills. With Node.js 18+, clone the repository and run node install.cjs to link them into ~/.copilot/skills/. You still need TradingLead Desktop to run the commands.
Limitations
- Desktop only. Assistants cannot control the website in a normal browser.
- No live trading. No broker orders, broker sign-in or broker connection by the assistant.
- A command can only do what the open tab supports. Ask the assistant to discover capabilities first rather than assume them.
- Check AI-generated scripts and results yourself. Backtests are not proof of future returns.
- Desktop access follows your plan; see pricing.
FAQ
Do I need to install Node.js? No. The CLI bundles its own runtime; only a manual skills install needs Node.js 18+.
Is any MCP configuration needed? No.
Can the assistant see my chart? It can read the state that commands return, such as symbol, interval and results.

Frequently asked questions
- The assistant says the tradinglead command is not found. What now?
- Open a new terminal after enabling setup so the updated path is loaded. If it still fails, use Help > AI integrations > Repair in TradingLead Desktop.
- Can I use Claude Code instead of GitHub Copilot?
- Yes, if it can run terminal commands. Copilot gets automatic skill registration; other agents can read the same instructions through tradinglead agent-guide and tradinglead skills read.
- Can I connect an assistant to TradingLead in the browser?
- No. Browser-only tabs have no external connection. The AI Workspace shows that external assistants need TradingLead Desktop.
- Will the assistant see my broker password?
- No. Broker credentials and model keys are not exposed, and the assistant cannot connect a broker or place live orders.
