Feature
Stock Screener for NSE Stocks with Custom Rules
The TradingLead stock screener runs in the Scan sidebar beside the chart. It checks a watchlist or stock list against ready-made presets, your own conditions or a saved screener. Results come from stored cloud candles, not live quotes, and each run uses your account's daily scan allowance.
What it does
The stock screener narrows a list of Indian stocks down to the ones that meet your rules. It sits in the Scan sidebar of the chart workspace at /charts, so you can open any match on the chart next to it without leaving the page.
You can choose from three kinds of scan:
- Ready-made presets: gainers, losers, volume breakout, 52-week high, 52-week low, momentum and a market summary.
- Custom rules: your own conditions on price, volume and common indicators.
- Saved screeners: rules you saved earlier, which you can run again on any list.
The panel also keeps the original classic strategies. You can run them together on the same stocks, and a stock counts as a match only when every strategy's signal is positive.
How it works
A scan reads stored cloud candles for the timeframe you pick: 5, 15 or 60 minutes, daily, weekly or monthly. It works on the stocks you choose, which can be a watchlist, a category or symbols you type in. The panel says it plainly: "Cloud snapshots, not live prices. Separate from your chart feed." Even if your chart uses a broker or local feed, the screener still reads TradingLead's cloud data.
Nothing runs until you press Scan. Changing settings does not start a new request, and the table keeps the previous results until you scan again. Every run uses your daily allowance, including runs that reuse a cached result less than 60 seconds old. The sidebar shows your scans remaining today, stocks per scan and saved-screener count.
Results show warnings and coverage. Missing data is reported as an error, not counted as a non-match. Stored history is not fully adjusted for splits and bonuses, so results carry a warning about this.

If your account has SQL screener access (the plan configuration includes it in TradingLead Pro and the trial), a read-only Custom SQL mode is available. It has a Create SQL with AI helper that builds a prompt for you to paste into your own AI tool. You then paste the SQL back in and review it before scanning. TradingLead does not run an AI model in this step.
TradingLead Desktop users also get a separate local broker scan on the AI Workspace page. It runs a TLScript-Pine indicator with a numeric threshold over up to 50 tickers using a connected broker's history.
How to use
- Sign in and open /charts, then open the Scan sidebar.
- Under Stocks to scan, pick a watchlist or choose your own symbols.
- Under Find, pick a preset or Custom conditions, then choose a timeframe.
- Press Scan and review the matches, warnings and coverage.
- Save the rules as a screener or add matches to a watchlist.
The step-by-step screener guide has more detail. To get notified when a matched stock reaches a level, see alerts.
Limitations
- Results are snapshots of stored candles, not live market movers.
- Your daily scan allowance and stocks-per-scan limit depend on your account. Opening Scanned History is free, but reruns use allowance.
- A cancelled scan may still finish on the server and count towards your usage.
- Unadjusted split and bonus history can affect returns and 52-week values.
- Custom SQL is included with TradingLead Pro and during the free trial; without SQL screener access it appears disabled.
- There is no natural-language "ask AI for stocks" screener. Local Python indicators are not available as cloud screening filters.
- A screener result is not a recommendation to buy or sell.
Plan access is explained on the pricing page.
FAQ
Is the screener real-time? No. It returns a snapshot built from stored candles.
Can I screen weekly charts? Yes. Weekly and monthly scans use completed periods only.
Does it place trades? No. Matches can only go to a TradingLead watchlist or a chart.
Limitations
- Snapshot of stored candles, not live prices.
- Uses a daily scan allowance; reruns and cancelled runs can count.
- Split and bonus adjustment in the stored history is incomplete; results carry a warning.
- Custom SQL requires SQL screener access on your account (configured for Pro and the trial); it stays disabled otherwise.
- No natural-language AI screener is available.
Frequently asked questions
- Is the TradingLead screener real-time?
- No. Each scan reads stored cloud candles for the selected timeframe and returns a snapshot. The time a result was generated is not the market-data timestamp, and the scanner does not stream live movers.
- Which timeframes can I screen?
- Structured scans support 5-minute, 15-minute, 60-minute, daily, weekly and monthly data. Weekly and monthly screens use completed periods only.
- How many stocks can I scan at once?
- Up to your account's stocks-per-scan limit, which the sidebar shows. A watchlist above 500 symbols is rejected instead of being silently trimmed.
- Can I write my own screening formula?
- Yes. Custom conditions let you combine fields such as close, SMA20, EMA20, RSI14 and volume ratio with AND/OR groups. Custom SQL is also available to accounts with SQL screener access, which the plan configuration includes in TradingLead Pro and the trial; if the mode appears disabled, your account does not currently have that access.
- Does the screener use my broker feed?
- No. Cloud scans are separate from the chart feed, even when the chart shows a local or broker source. TradingLead Desktop has a separate local broker scan for small ticker lists.
