How to Use Multiple Chart Layouts
Choose a two-pane or four-pane arrangement from TradingLead's Chart layout menu, then configure each active pane's symbol, feed and interval. Link symbol for same-instrument multi-timeframe research or Link interval for same-timeframe comparisons; symbols only follow into panes using the same feed.
Before you begin
Open TradingLead charts with current account access. Start with one supported symbol whose candles have loaded. Multi-chart setup is easier to diagnose when you already know the first chart's feed and interval.
Choose a research question before adding panes. Two clear views are often more useful than four compressed ones. This guide describes chart organization, not a trading setup or investment recommendation.
1. Choose a layout
Open Chart layout from the workspace controls. Select:
- Single chart for one detailed view.
- Two side by side for horizontal comparison.
- Two stacked for vertical comparison.
- Four charts for a small multi-view dashboard.
The A+B control is not this menu. It opens native Compare/Overlay functionality. The sidebar Chart Grid is another separate surface: a gallery using cloud history, not a set of independently broker-backed split panes.
Read multi-chart layouts if you are deciding between these tools.
2. Configure each pane deliberately
Click the pane you intend to change. Check its current symbol, source and interval before using chart controls. Repeat for each visible pane.
Do not assume the new pane's feed matches the original. A provider can recognize a different set of symbols, and a chart can be visible before history is ready. Wait for candles or an explicit source error.
If you intend same-feed symbol linking, put the relevant panes on the same feed first. Connecting a broker does not silently convert every chart to that provider.
3. Build a multi-timeframe view
For one instrument at different intervals:
- Choose a two-pane arrangement.
- Verify both panes use the same source.
- Activate the first pane and choose the intended symbol.
- Open Chart layout and enable Link symbol.
- Leave Link interval off.
- Set one pane to daily and the other to a supported intraday interval.
- Change the active symbol and verify both panes settle on the new instrument.
This keeps the instrument aligned while allowing different candle intervals. It does not synchronize the historical viewport, crosshair or drawings. Compare timestamps manually when studying the same event across intervals.
The timeframes glossary explains why one daily candle is not equivalent to a fixed number of intraday candles in every session.
4. Build a same-interval comparison
For different instruments at one interval:
- Assign each pane a supported stock or index.
- Leave Link symbol off.
- Enable Link interval.
- Change the active pane's interval.
- Check every pane's resulting interval and returned history.
This configuration is useful for organizing an index-context view beside an equity view. It is not proof that the sources have identical freshness or session definitions.
If both links are enabled, the active pane drives both changes. Only do that when aligned symbols and intervals are actually the intended result.
5. Resize and focus
Adjust the split sizes to keep labels readable. Use Focus active chart to enlarge one chart temporarily, then Restore split charts to return.
Focusing is different from replacing the chart or loading a saved layout. It is useful when a four-chart arrangement makes one candle sequence too small to inspect.
After increasing the pane count, verify the newly visible panes. If alignment matters, re-enable the relevant link or make the intended active-pane change rather than assuming a hidden chart has already synchronized.
6. Save the right object
Split preferences are account-scoped in local browser storage. A saved native chart layout concerns the active chart's setup. These are different persistence mechanisms, and neither should be mistaken for a guaranteed portable four-pane preset.
Save meaningful chart work before loading another layout into a pane. Loading can replace unsaved state. A saved layout name alone does not prove that the correct feed or history will be available when reopened.
Troubleshooting and limitations
If a symbol does not follow, check whether the target pane is visible, mounted and on the same feed. If an interval fails, check provider support and history rather than assuming linking is broken.
There is no synchronized crosshair. Do not expect symbol linking to copy drawings, indicators, zoom or cursor location. The visible split maximum is four charts; Desktop tabs are separate.
Platform access follows TradingLead's five-day trial and subscription rules. For source setup, use connect a broker feed.
FAQ
Can every pane use a different broker?
Panes have their own feed context, but each connection must be supported and ready. Symbol links deliberately do not cross those source boundaries.
Is a changed toolbar enough to verify the layout?
No. Confirm the symbol, feed, interval and loaded candles in each pane. Linking and data loading can complete asynchronously.
Steps
- Open Chart layout and select a two- or four-pane arrangement.
- Activate each pane and verify its source and instrument.
- Enable only the needed symbol or interval link.
- Change the active pane and verify other visible panes.
- Save meaningful chart setups before loading replacements.
Limitations
- Symbol links do not cross data feeds.
- There is no synchronized crosshair.
- Saved chart layouts and local split preferences are different.
- A+B Compare and sidebar Chart Grid are not split-layout controls.
Frequently asked questions
- How do I keep one stock on daily and intraday charts?
- Use two panes on the same feed, enable Link symbol and leave Link interval off. Set each pane's interval independently and verify that both histories load.
- How do I compare different stocks on the same interval?
- Leave Link symbol off, assign each pane its own stock and enable Link interval. Changes from the active pane then request that interval in other visible panes, subject to feed support.
- Why did linking not change a broker chart's symbol?
- Symbol linking intentionally skips panes using a different feed. Their symbol namespaces can differ; select a provider-supported instrument in that pane explicitly.
- Can I sync crosshairs and drawings?
- The verified split links concern symbols and intervals only. There is no synchronized crosshair and no promise of linked drawings, zoom or scroll position.
