Futures Analysis: NSE FII, DII and Client Positions

TradingLead Futures Analysis charts NSE's published participant-wise open interest in index futures and stock futures for FIIs, DIIs, Pros and Clients. You can compare net positions, longs and shorts, day-to-day net change and long share over up to one year, then export the data as CSV. It shows published reports, not live quotes or price forecasts.

What it does

Futures Analysis shows how different groups of market participants are positioned in NSE futures. Every trading day NSE publishes participant-wise open interest, and TradingLead turns those reports into interactive charts and a data table.

The data is split into two sections, Index futures and Stock futures. Each one covers four participant groups:

  • FII: foreign institutional investors
  • DII: domestic institutional investors
  • Pro: proprietary traders
  • Client: other clients, including retail

It is available at tradinglead.in/futures after sign-in, and as a Futures tab in the chart workspace.

How it works

TradingLead plots each published report date. Missing values stay blank instead of being filled in, and the panel labels the data "Not a live quote". You choose which participants to compare and a history range of 30 days, 90 days, 180 days or 1 year.

The available metrics are:

MetricMeaning
Net positionsLong contracts minus short contracts
Long / shortGross long and short open interest
Net changeChange in net position against the previous published report
Long shareLongs as a percentage of that participant's long plus short open interest

The chart is built for reading, not drawing. You can switch between lines and columns, zoom and pan with the mouse or keyboard, and read values with a crosshair. The data table lists the report date, participant, long, short, net, net change and long share.

Key capabilities

  • Separate index futures and stock futures views
  • FII, DII, Pro and Client comparison on one chart
  • Ranges of 30, 90, 180 or 365 days
  • Line or column chart styles
  • Crosshair readout, zoom, pan and keyboard navigation
  • PNG chart image and a report data table
  • Export CSV of the selected participants across the visible dates, with every position metric

How to use

  1. Sign in and open tradinglead.in/futures, or the Futures tab inside the chart workspace.
  2. Choose Index futures or Stock futures.
  3. Pick participants and a history range.
  4. Switch the metric, for example to Long share, to compare how groups lean.
  5. Use the data table or Export CSV for your own analysis.

To compare this with price, open an index on the Indian stock charts workspace and choose a daily timeframe.

Limitations

  • This is published, aggregate open interest. It is not the position in the ticker your chart shows, and it is not intraday data.
  • The panel itself says that open interest is not a price forecast. Positioning data shows exposure, not direction.
  • Options data is not part of this view.
  • The panel uses a lightweight chart, so indicators and drawing tools are not available here.
  • The /futures page is not shown in the main navigation; it is reachable directly and from the chart workspace.

Access follows your plan; see pricing.

FAQ

Does it show FII index futures long-short ratio? Yes. Use the Long share metric on Index futures with FII selected.

How far back does it go? Up to one year in the panel.

Can I see individual stock positions? No. The data is aggregated by participant group.

Limitations

  • Published report data, not live quotes.
  • Aggregate market data, not positions in a single stock.
  • Open interest is not a price forecast.
  • No indicators or drawing tools on this panel.

Which participants are shown?
FII, DII, Pro and Client, for index futures and stock futures separately.
Can I download FII/DII futures data?
Yes. Export CSV downloads the selected participants across the visible dates with all position metrics.
