Chart Drawing Tools and Drawing Templates

TradingLead provides editable chart drawings for levels, trend lines, zones, text and selected geometric or pattern tools. Drawing templates restyle a selected annotation; they are separate from indicator templates and saved chart layouts.

What it does

Drawing tools let you record an interpretation directly on a TradingLead chart. A line can mark a previously observed price level, a rectangle can identify an area you want to revisit, and text can preserve the reasoning behind an observation.

The purpose is to make research explicit and reviewable. A line is not a confirmed support level simply because it has been drawn. Markets can trade through annotations, and hindsight makes historical levels look more certain than they were in real time.

Key capabilities

The available user-drawing surface includes:

  • Horizontal lines, horizontal rays and vertical lines.
  • Trend lines, rays, extended lines and arrows.
  • Text labels for chart notes.
  • Rectangles, ellipses, triangles and parallel channels.
  • Fibonacci retracement.
  • Date ranges, price ranges and combined date-and-price ranges.
  • Selected pattern drawings, including ABCD, XABCD and head-and-shoulders tools.

The toolbar also provides interactive modes such as cursor, measure, brush and highlighter. Selecting an interactive tool arms it; you still place the drawing on the chart.

Magnet, lock-all and hide-all controls help manage a busy chart. Locking reduces accidental movement. Hiding can temporarily remove visual clutter without treating the annotation as deleted. Use the object tree when you need to inspect particular objects rather than clearing everything.

How it works

User drawings have anchors in chart time and price. Their meaning therefore depends on the symbol, interval, source and loaded history you were studying. Place anchors on the intended candles and verify them after changing the visible range.

In split layouts, first activate the pane you want to annotate. A drawing on one chart is not a promise of automatically synchronized drawings on another chart. Symbol and interval links have their own narrower purpose; see multi-chart layouts.

Indicator-created lines, labels and boxes may look similar to manual drawings but have a different owner. Editing or removing user annotations should not be used as a shortcut to manage an applied indicator's output.

Drawing templates versus other templates

A drawing template restyles a selected editable drawing. Save, rename and delete operations for the drawing-template library are interactive chart actions.

An indicator template concerns native studies on a chart. A saved chart layout captures a chart setup. These names are easy to confuse, but none should be advertised as an interchangeable way to save every part of a research workspace.

Before applying a style, confirm that you have selected the intended drawing. A style change does not change the instrument's market data or establish whether a marked level remains relevant.

How to use

  1. Open a supported symbol and confirm the feed and timeframe.
  2. Select a line or rectangle tool from the left toolbar.
  3. Place the required anchor points on the intended candles or prices.
  4. Add a short note explaining what you observed and when.
  5. Adjust the drawing's style or apply a compatible saved template.
  6. Lock the annotation if you want to avoid accidentally moving it.
  7. Save the chart setup before closing or replacing meaningful work.

For an educational support-and-resistance exercise, mark a zone from completed history, write why it was chosen and inspect later candles without shifting the original zone to fit the outcome. See support and resistance.

Limitations

Drawings do not submit broker orders, validate a strategy or guarantee future price behavior. A geometric pattern label is an annotation, not an independently verified trading signal.

Template styling cannot fix missing chart history or a wrong data source. If an annotation looks misplaced, first check its instrument, anchors, interval and viewport rather than deleting unrelated drawings.

Platform access follows TradingLead's five-day trial and subscription rules; current terms are on pricing.

FAQ

Can I remove all drawings at once?

A clear-all drawing action is available, but it is destructive to user annotations. Review what will be lost and save meaningful work before clearing it.

Why does an indicator's line remain after hiding drawings?

An indicator's managed visual is not necessarily a user drawing. Use the indicator's own visibility or removal controls instead.

Limitations

  • Drawings are research annotations, not order instructions or trade guarantees.
  • Drawing templates act on selected editable drawings, not managed indicator visuals.
  • In split layouts, drawings belong to the targeted chart pane.

Frequently asked questions

Can I draw support and resistance zones?
Yes. Horizontal lines and rays can mark levels, rectangles can mark zones, and text can record the reason for an annotation. These markings do not predict that price will hold.
Are Fibonacci retracements supported?
Yes. Fibonacci retracement is among the supported drawing tools, alongside trend lines, channels, rectangles and other annotations.
What does a drawing template save?
A drawing template applies a saved style to a selected editable drawing. It is not a strategy, an indicator template or an entire chart layout.
Can hiding drawings remove indicators?
User-drawing controls and indicator controls are separate. Managed study visuals are not ordinary editable user drawings; use the relevant indicator controls for them.
