What Is Bar Replay?
Bar replay is historical chart playback that hides later candles and reveals completed bars step by step. In TradingLead, native replay is for chart observation; starting Trade switches to a separate paper session for simulated orders and account records.
What it means
Bar replay recreates the order in which historical candles become visible. Instead of viewing a finished chart, you start at an earlier point and reveal the next completed bar when ready.
The distinction matters because a later move can change how an earlier candle appears in hindsight. Replay helps you record an observation before seeing that move; it does not prove that the observation predicts price.
How it works in TradingLead
Open Replay on the chart, confirm and pick a historical candle. That chosen candle is initially hidden. Next reveals one completed candle; Play advances automatically; Pause stops playback. Back revisits the preceding candle while paused.
The speed control accepts 0.1–200 bars per second. Changing a native replay timeframe pauses playback and keeps the historical clock. Larger candles stay hidden until fully completed by that clock.
Key capabilities and differences
- Bar replay: observe historical candles in sequence.
- Paper replay: place simulated orders with virtual funds after choosing Trade.
- Strategy backtest: evaluate specified strategy rules and recorded simulated results.
Applied chart indicators remain analytical displays. Their plots are not order fills, and a visible signal is not proof of strategy performance.
How to use it
Choose one question, record what the visible candles show, and reveal the next bar. For virtual balance and order records, explicitly start a paper session through Trade. Read the practice guide for the full workflow.
Limitations
Replay depends on actual feed history for the selected symbol, interval and date. It is not tick replay, and calendar completion uses conservative UTC boundaries rather than an assumed exchange close. Native replay alone produces no account, fills or performance analytics.
For Indian-market practice, check the available history instead of assuming every Nifty intraday interval exists. Repeated historical practice is educational, not a guarantee of future trading outcomes.
FAQ
Does native replay place trades?
No. Choose Trade to switch to paper trading with simulated orders.
Can I change the speed?
Yes. The target range is 0.1–200 bars per second; actual loading and rendering can be slower.
Will every historical date work?
No. Availability is controlled by the selected feed's symbol and interval history.
Limitations
- Closed-candle playback, not tick replay.
- History depends on the selected feed.
- Native playback alone records no trades.
Frequently asked questions
- Is bar replay the same as backtesting?
- No. Native bar replay reveals historical candles. A strategy backtest executes specified rules under simulation assumptions and produces trade records and metrics.
- Is bar replay tick replay?
- No. TradingLead native replay reveals completed candles rather than reconstructing each intrabar price change.
- Can replay show unavailable market history?
- No. The selected feed must have the requested symbol, date and interval. Replay does not manufacture missing candles.
