Indicator Studio: Build Pine and Python Indicators

Indicator Studio is the code editor built into TradingLead charts for writing custom indicators in TLScript-Pine (a documented Pine v5/v6 subset, validated before execution) or ordinary Python. It checks Pine compatibility as you type, builds AI fix prompts you can paste into your own AI, and keeps Compile, Save and Apply as separate explicit steps.

What it does

Indicator Studio is where you create custom indicators on TradingLead. It sits inside the chart workspace, so you can write code, run it on the chart you are looking at, and tune it without switching tools.

Studio has two languages:

LanguageBest for
TLScript-PinePine Script v5/v6 indicators — TradingLead supports a documented Pine v5/v6 indicator subset, and source is validated before execution. Pine strategies can also be authored and sent to Backtesting.
PythonOrdinary Python indicators using a calculate(bars, params) function, with NumPy and pandas available in the browser runtime. Python strategies can also be authored for backtesting.

How it works

  • Open it from the Indicator Studio tab in the chart's bottom panel. Dock it below the chart, to the side, or pop it out into a separate window.
  • Panels: Library (your saved scripts), Docs (language reference), AI prompt, Parameters (inputs and execution options) and On chart (applied instances).
  • Toolbar: New starts a guided empty draft; Compile checks the code; Save / Save as store it; Apply adds it to the chart; Review update replaces a selected instance after showing the change. In Python the run action is Run on chart. For a Pine strategy, the main button becomes Apply & backtest.
  • Isolation: Pine compiles and runs in a sandboxed worker without page, credential or direct network access. Browser Python runs in a fresh isolated frame with network disabled during execution.

Key capabilities

Pine compatibility report

As you paste or edit Pine, Studio analyses the source locally and labels it:

  • Works directly — no known compatibility changes found.
  • Works with approximations — runs, with listed runtime, rendering or input differences.
  • Needs conversion — belongs in another TradingLead workflow (for example, a strategy goes to Backtesting).
  • Unavailable — needs a capability TradingLead does not provide, such as request.financial or a published library import.

Each problem shows its line and column, with a remediation note from the compatibility manifest. Capability findings and compiler diagnostics share one navigable Problems list.

Copy fix prompt and Paste AI fix

  • Copy fix prompt builds a prompt from the exact problem list and your current source. Small scripts ask for a full replacement; larger ones ask for targeted line edits. Nothing is sent automatically — you paste it into the AI of your choice.
  • Paste AI fix accepts a complete replacement or exact SEARCH/REPLACE blocks. Each search must match exactly once. Studio previews the change, re-runs the compatibility check, compiles in the sandbox, and only then lets you apply it — to your unsaved draft, never directly to the chart or library.

AI prompt panel

Both languages include an editable AI prompt that describes the authoring contract, inputs and limits. Your current code is included only if you opt in. Copy it to your preferred AI, then paste the returned code back.

Inputs and styles

Declared inputs become a typed settings form (numbers, toggles, dropdowns, colours, sources, timeframes and more). Style changes such as colour or line width do not rerun the script; input changes recalculate it.

Saving and reusing

  • Library: saved scripts with retained revisions (up to 20) that you can compare and recover into a draft.
  • My saved indicators: the chart's Indicators dialog lists your saved Pine and Python indicators, so you can add them to any chart.
  • Backup: Export library backup and Import library backup (JSON) move scripts between browsers or devices. Import adds copies and never overwrites or runs code.

How to use it

Limitations

  • Pine is a documented v5/v6 subset, not full TradingView compatibility.
  • Your saved library lives in this browser/device for your account. Use library export to back it up; cross-device sync is not promised.
  • Indicator sharing links, a public indicator community and selling paid indicators exist in development but are not publicly available today.
  • Pine alerts are local chart events, not server notifications.
  • Pine telemetry (disclosed toggle, on by default) can send final source and compatibility/error details after save, apply or an error. Uncheck Share my final scripts and errors to improve Pine support in Studio settings if you prefer.

Related

Limitations

  • Pine support is a documented v5/v6 subset; some scripts need changes or use unavailable TradingView-hosted features.
  • Saved libraries are stored per account in this browser/device; export a backup to move them. Cross-device sync is not claimed.
  • Indicator sharing links and paid indicator sales are not publicly available.
  • Pine strategies run through Backtesting, not as chart indicators.

Frequently asked questions

Where is Indicator Studio in TradingLead?
Open a chart and select the Indicator Studio tab in the bottom panel. You can dock it below the chart, beside the chart, or pop it out into its own window.
What does 'Works with approximations' mean?
The Pine script can run, but some parts behave differently on TradingLead — for example marker glyph rendering, fixed arrow sizing, fill gradient limits or manual entry instead of chart price picking. The exact differences are listed with line numbers.
Does Indicator Studio send my code to an AI?
No. Copy fix prompt and the AI prompt panel build text locally for you to copy into the AI you choose. Paste AI fix brings the answer back and re-validates it. Note that separately, Pine Studio telemetry (on by default, can be turned off) may send final source and error details after save, apply or an error.
Does saving an indicator change what's on my chart?
No. Save stores the source and inputs in your library; Apply adds an instance to the chart; Review update replaces a selected instance after showing the diff. Each step is explicit.
Where do saved indicators appear?
In the Studio Library and in the chart's Indicators dialog under My saved indicators, so you can add them to any chart like a built-in study.
Can I share or sell indicators?
Sharing links and indicator sales are not publicly available yet. You can export your library as a JSON backup and import it again.
