Review Paper and Backtest Trades on Your Chart

TradingLead trade review connects paper-trading and backtest exit legs to their chart context through View on chart. Inspect entry and exit markers, optional connecting lines and configurable labels, then use the ledger for exact fill prices, costs and partial-exit details.

What it does

A summary statistic cannot show where an entry occurred relative to a candle or how a partial exit changed a position. TradingLead's trade-review workflow brings a recorded simulated trade back onto its chart so you can inspect that context alongside the ledger.

The verified scope is paper trading and backtesting. These are simulated fills generated within TradingLead, not proof of a real broker execution. This page does not promise automatic broker-trade import or a separate live-trade journal.

How it works

Choose a paper session or backtest, find an exit leg in its trade list and select View on chart. TradingLead restores the run's feed, symbol and timeframe and focuses the selected leg's entry and exit. Selecting the same focused row again clears the focus without navigating the chart a second time.

An exit leg is not always an entire position. If you close a position in parts, several rows can share a position ID. Review their quantities and fees together before treating them as separate trading decisions.

The chart uses the recorded run context. If restoring history fails, resolve that error rather than interpreting a mismatched or blank chart as evidence that the trade did not occur.

Key capabilities

  • Entry and exit markers identify the candles associated with simulated fills.
  • Trade path lines optionally connect recorded entry and exit prices.
  • Trade labels can be hidden, limited to selected/latest exits, or shown for all visible trades.
  • Scope controls let you focus on the selected trade rather than every visible trade.
  • Original stop/target overlays show the selected backtest trade's recorded initial protection when available.
  • Open-position levels display current operational entry and configured SL/TP levels in paper sessions.
  • Ledger details retain quantities, prices, costs and separate partial-exit records.

The backtest Chart menu separates Inputs, Period, Style and Visibility. Appearance changes do not rerun the strategy; input and period changes can. Keep that distinction clear when your purpose is reviewing an existing result.

How to use

  1. Open your paper session or completed backtest.
  2. Find an exit leg in the trade list.
  3. Select View on chart and wait for its chart context to load.
  4. Inspect the entry and exit candles, then read the recorded prices in the ledger.
  5. In the backtest Chart menu, enable Trade path lines or choose Selected trade only if needed.
  6. Adjust labels to reduce clutter without discarding ledger records.
  7. Compare related partial exits and their position IDs before writing a conclusion.

Reading the display correctly

An arrow's tip is not necessarily the simulated fill price. Arrows are positioned around candle highs and lows so they remain readable. Short horizontal fill marks identify exact prices when enabled; labels and ledger values provide recorded execution details.

A connecting line is a visual link between two recorded fills. It does not show the actual path price took between them. The chart may display points or percentage movement as a compact annotation; use the ledger's net values and cost details to evaluate account results.

Original backtest stops and targets are also not the same thing as today's editable paper protection. Hiding an operational protection overlay changes visibility, not the underlying order or risk setting.

Limitations

The viewport has a 40-trade overlay budget. Several exits on the same side of one candle may share a stacked label, while every exit leg remains in the ledger. Missing text can also be intentional: selected/latest labels are less crowded than all-label mode.

Paper and backtest outcomes depend on their data and execution assumptions. A clean-looking chart does not establish profitability, realistic liquidity or tick-level fill accuracy. Trial and subscription access follow TradingLead pricing.

FAQ

Can I see every label at once?

Choose All visible trades for trade labels in the backtest Chart menu. The viewport budget still applies, so use the ledger when reviewing a long run.

Can I use review after bar replay practice?

Yes, if you started a paper session through Trade and generated simulated fills. Native Bar Replay alone does not create trades to review.

Does this provide investment advice?

No. Chart review is an educational inspection of simulated decisions and results, not a recommendation to enter or exit an instrument.

Limitations

  • Verified review covers simulated trades, not imported live broker fills.
  • Chart overlays use a 40-trade viewport budget; the ledger retains all exit legs.
  • A trade path is not a reconstruction of tick-by-tick execution.
  • Original selected-trade stops and targets are different from current open-position protection.

Frequently asked questions

Which trades can I review on the chart?
The verified workflow covers TradingLead paper fills and backtest trades. It does not establish automatic importing of live broker executions.
Can I connect a trade's entry and exit?
Yes. Enable Trade path lines in the backtest Chart menu. Lines connect recorded entry and exit prices when the trade has a drawable path.
Why is an arrow not exactly at the fill price?
Arrows identify the execution candle and are offset around its high or low for readability. Read the label, fill-price mark or ledger for the recorded price.
Does changing marker appearance rerun my backtest?
Style and visibility changes do not rerun the backtest. Applying strategy input or period changes can rerun it, so distinguish those tabs.
